I am an optical physicist with fifteen years of professional research experience. Prior to starting DIEHL RGS, I was chief scientist at ASE Optics. My primary role at ASE Optics was to direct and manage internal research as principal investigator. I also provided technical consulting services to ASE’s external customers. I won the first SBIR that I applied for, and my overall hit-rate on Phase I SBIRs is 1-in-3.
DIEHL RGS provides a service that I see is lacking—technical grant-writing assistance from a scientist who is familiar with sponsored research. Believe it or not, I actually love doing this stuff. Aside from this grant-writing business, I am authoring an “optics for business people” book (lots of pictures, no math) for SPIE Press with Rich Youngworth of Light Capture. I volunteer as Development Chair for the ImageOut Film and Video Festival and I am the 2012–2013 president-elect for the Optical Society of America, Rochester Section.
